A number of people write to us asking what gear we use to record and produce our podcasts. There are a number of ways you can record your shows and below are a couple of scenarios and the gear you might want to consider using.
Entry Level Podcast Setup
You don’t need to spend a lot of money to get into podcasting. This entry level system is all you need to get up and going quickly.
“Studio” Podcast
This type of set-up is good for podcasters who want to capture high quality sound that doesn’t require a lot of technical knowledge to get everything connected.
Hands Free Podcast
This setup is great for hands free shows that give the guests/hosts the ability to move around without a lot of gear in front of them. This is a great setup for RPG shows where you want to limit outside sound and record each performer on their own track.
Not listed here, but something you will need to invest in is an audio headphone breakout box to feed the audio from the recorder/mixer to your participants.
On the Other Side
Though you can use any and all of the gear listed above, sometimes all you need is a microphone and a recorder. For our distance participants we provide USB microphones for their use. These microphones are great ones for those single person setups that feed directly into the recording software.
Don’t Forget the Storage
Having a good backup and storage solution for all of your shows is important as well. Don’t wait until years worth of content is gone! A good solid network drive will do wonders for your podcast recording, organization, and backup.
